CSKA gets coaching master Vujosevic for three years

Vujosevic, 51, arrives from Partizan Belgrade, where he had become one of the faces of the franchise. He coached the Serbian powerhouse from 2001 with no interruption, leading it to nine consecutive national championships, four cups and the last four Adriatic League titles, becoming the most successful coach in that club's illustrious history. At CSKA he replaces Evgeny Pashutin, who leaves to take on a new post elsewhere. Vujosevic faced CSKA in the third-place game at the last Final Four in Paris, where Moscow won an overtime thriller 90-88.

Vujosevic began his coaching career as a 17-year old in 1976. Until 1982 he coached various junior teams in Partizan. After that, he moved to OKK Beograd for one season and led the club's junior team to the Yugoslavian title. The same year, he worked on the coaching staff of OKK Beograd's first team. He started his pro career also at Partizan in 1985 and stayed there until 1989. After that, Vujosevic spent one year in Spain with CB GRanada before going back to Partizan for the 1990-91 season. The following campaign, he coached Partizan's archrival Crvena Zvezda and then spent seasons in Italy with Brescia, Pistoia and Scavolini respectively before going back to Yugoslavia with KK Buducnost and then with KK Radnicki from 1999 to 2001. After that stint, he was back to Partizan to take the club to new heights in European basketball culminating with a Euroleague Final Four appearance last season in Paris, the first one for in a dozen years.

Among other highlights in his career are winning the Yugoslavian League in 1987 and the 1989 Korac Cup, both with Partizan. At an international level, Vujosevic was head coach of the Serbia and Montenegro national team during EuroBasket of 2003 in Sweden, where the team finished sixth. Since 2007, he has been the head coach of the national team of Montenegro.

"I'm exceptionally satisfied and honored to continue my coaching career at such a reputed club as CSKA," Vujosevic said. "My move to Moscow definitely marks a step forward in my career, but I do believe that what I'm bringing with me to CSKA will also contribute to my new club's better and bigger achievements. Russia holds tremendous potential in all aspects, including plentiful basketball talent, and I truly hope that my experience in working with youth, coupled with hard day-to-day work and dedicated commitment on the court, will help these talented Russian youngsters develop into real players. Naturally, alongside those efforts we will also have to fight our competitors every day as we strive to achieve top results. I have won many trophies in my career, but I still lack the Euroleague trophy. I have been dreaming about winning it and I hope that my dream will come true during my contract with CSKA. I sincerely hope that CSKA and Russia will show me the same kind of love that I feel coming into my new club and your country"
