Unicaja adds point guard Barrera

Pozo)Unicaja signed playmaker Gustavo "Panchi" Barrera for the coming season with an option for the 2011-12 campaign, the club announced Wednesday. Barrera (193, 25), a native of Uruguay, has split his professional career between his homeland and Spain. He arrives from Union Atletica in Uruguay, where he led the league with 7.1 assists per game last season in addition to 13.5 points. He has also played for Hebraica Maccabi, Atletico Arenas and Welcome in Uruguay and DKV Joventut, Pamesa Castellon, Ciudad de Huelva, Leche Rio Breogan and Caja Rural Melilla in Spain as well as a brief stint for Trotamundocarabobos in Venezuela. As a member of the Uruguayan national team, Barrera won a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil.
