Alba Berlin keeps All-Eurocup forward McElroy
Immanuel McElroy - Alba Berlin - Finals 2010 Vitoria-GasteizAlba Berlin reached a new agreement with swingman Immanuel McElroy to extend his contract until the end of the 2010-11 season, the club announced Thursday. McElroy (194, 30) arrived to Alba in February 2008 once his previous team, RheinEnergie Koeln, folded. He helped Alba to win the German League title right away. McElroy averaged 9.7 points, 4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 16 Eurocup games last season, helping Alba to reach its first continental final since 1995 and earning All-Eurocup first team honors. In 2008-09, McElroy won the German Cup with Alba, as well as leading his team to the Euroleague Top 16 for the first time in club history. McElroy, an accomplished defensive stopper, ranked sixth overall (15.6) in index ranking average in the 2008-09 Euroleague. That season, he earned regular season Week 9 MVP honors with 26 points on 4-for-4 three-pointers to make Alba register a pivotal win against DKV Joventut in Badalona. "Immanuel McElroy has been a very consistent player for us in the last few years," Alba team manager Mithat Demirel said. "We are delighted that he knows Alba so well and can keep helping us next season."
