Team Profile 2010-11: Cedevita Zagreb
Another Zagreb-based club is ready to make some noise in European competitions as KK Cedevita tries to reach the Eurocup for the first time ever. Founded in 1991 as a local Zagreb club under the name KK Botinec, the team reached the Croatian third division in 1994. It got a new sponsor and became Hiron Botinec and was soon even stronger. It wasn't until 1998, however, that Botinec made it to the Croatian second division. The arrival of team manager Zeljko Dugandzic and coach Jaksa Vulic helped Botinec reach the Croatian elite in 2002. The club made an outstanding first division debut, finishing fifth overall and earning the right to play in European competitions, taking part in the 2003-04 FIBA Europe Cup. The team had already cemented its status as an emerging power in its country, but when the Atlantic Group decided to back the club, changing its name to KK Cedevita, it all clicked. The team was able to afford better players and managed to finish fifth in three consecutive seasons from 2007 to 2009. Cedevita comes off its best season ever, as players like Marino Bazdaric, Andrija Zizic and Jermaine Anderson and experienced coach Aca Petrovic helped the team to finish seventh in its Adriatic League debut season over more experienced teams like Zadar, Zvezda, FMP and Bosna. Cedevita made it to the Croatian League semifinals for the first time, too, showing its best moments are yet to come. Cedevita is now ready to keep growing as a club and its first, immediate goal is to be able to make it to the Eurocup by surviving the Qualifying Rounds
