Lottomatica Roma extends Washington, inks Iannilli
Lottomatica Roma confirmed one extension and one arrival for the 2010-11 season, guard Darius Washington and forward Andrea Iannilli respectively. Washington (188, 24) arrived in Roma last April, and he had time to play five Italian League games with the team averaging 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds. He got there from Galatasaray Cafe Crown of Turkey where last season he led all Eurocup scorers averaging 21.6 points per game. He was alsmo among the best in assists (third, with 4.5) and steals (third, with 2.1). He also added 3.3 boards to his excellent numbers. Washington played college ball in Memphis but he soon made his European debut with PAOK Thessaloniki of Greece in November of 2006. In March of 2007 he moved to Czech CEZ Nymburk to win the national league and cup, but the following season he signed for the San Antonio Spurs where he stayed until January of 2008, as he travelled back to Greece to join Aris, making his Euroleague debut with an average of 10.2 points and 3.1 assists per game. In the summer of 2008 he signed for the Chicago Bulls, but for the start of the season he moved to Russia to play with Ural Great, and after that year, he joined Galatasaray readi for the 2009-10 season where he played a great season before moving to Rome.
Iannilli (207, 26) arrives from Mazzeo San Severo of the sceond division where last season he played 23 games averaging 6.4 points and 6.3 rebounds. Iannilli grew up on Stella Azzurra of Rome where he played from 2001 to 2005 through different teams of the inferior categories. In 2005 he joined Pallacanestro Trieste and his good season there allowed him to make his debut in the Italian League the following campaign with Siviglia Wear Teramo, even though he was soon sent on loan to Prima Veroli of the second division. During the 2007-08 season, back to Teramo, he could play three league games having a testimonial role in the team and soon he moved to Aget Imola of the second division again. The following season he preferred to stay in second division to play more minutes with Sassari and in the midseason he switched teams in the category moving to Scafati. During the 2009-10 preseason he joined Angelico Biella but during the year he played five games with his Stella Azzurra and finished the campaign at San Severo. Now, Iannilli is ready for his change at the Italian League again and, of course, his Euroleague debut with Lottomatica Roma.
