Alba Berlin adds Dragicevic at forward
Alba Berlin signed power forward Tadija Dragicevic to a one-year contract, reuniting the talent with his former coach Luka Pavicevic. The two previously worked together on the Serbian under-20 national team. Dragicevic (205, 24) has spent most of his career with boyhood club Crvena Zvezda, which he left midway through last season to join Italian side Virtus Roma. He achieved early stardom with Crvena Zvezda and became one of the youngest captain in the club’s long history. His finest season came during 2007-08, when Dragicevic guided his team within a win of the Eurocup Final Eight with 18.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and then posted 20.5 points and 5.7 rebounds as Crvena Zvezda knocked on the door of the Adriatic League final four. Last season he averaged 13.8 points and 2.8 boards in the Eurocup and 12.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in the Adriatic League before transferring to Rome. In the Italian League he was worth 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in 17 games, helping the team reach the playoffs. Among his career highlights are winning the 2006 Serbia & Montenegro National Cup with Crvena Zvezda and the gold medal at the 2006 European U-20 Championships with the Serbian nationa team. He also won a bronze medal at the 2005 European U-20 Championship.
"Tadija is one of the [most] promising young players at the power forward position in Europe, " ALba head coach Luka Pavicevic said. "I worked with him at the beginning of his career in the Serbian U20 national team and have followed his career since then. He has a combination of ambition and versatility that we have sorely missed in the last season at that position."
"I am very happy about the chance to play for such a great club, " Dragicevic said. "About Alba I've heard nothing but positive. I look forward to the season and in particular to working again with Luka Pavicevic. Our time together with the U20 national team remained is a very good memory."
