World Championship team profile: USA
The team from the country where the game was created, the United States of America, comes to Turkey for the 2010 FIBA World Championships looking to prove itself again, despite having won gold at the Olympic Games in Beijing two years ago. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski returns to guide the red, white and blue squad, however his team does not feature a single player from that Olympic team nor anyone from the 2006 World Championships. Unlike the Olympics, where Team USA is the undisputed king of basketball, the Americans have not fared nearly as well at the World Championships. The USA is a three-time world champion, but the most recent was in 1994. Four years ago Team USA came undone in the semifinals against Greece and settled for a bronze medal. Bit for Krzyzewski and co., anything but a gold medal from Turkey will not suffice.

Head Coach:
Mike Krzyzewski
Forward Kevin Durant is the star of the USA lineup, but will be competing at an elite international competition for the first time. He is joined at forward by Lamar Odom, a member of America’s 2004 Olympic team, as well as Danny Granger and the athletic Andre Iguodala. Point guard Chauncey Billups is America’s senior most player. He will share playmaking duties with the uber-quick Rajon Rondo. Krzyzewski will be turning to many young players in the backcourt, with Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon and Stephen Curry being asked to deliver from the outside. Tyson Chandler is Team USA’s only natural center, though big man Kevin Love should be up to the challenge in the pivot spot too. Though the Unites States team is quite talented, it must overcome obstacles in the form of chemistry and experience to survive the tough games in Turkey. If Krzyzewski is in the end able to fully prepare his players, Team USA will be among the favorites to go far.
