World Championship team profile: Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast (Photo: fiba.com)Following a runner-up finish at the 2009 African Championships, the Ivory Coast arrives in Turkey to take part in the FIBA World Championships for just the third time and first in nearly a quarter-century. And it will start with a bang for head coach Randoald Dessarzin’s men, who open the competition with a highly anticipated game against the host nation in the Turkish capital. The Ivory Coast is still rebuilding the basketball tradition at home and though expectations will not be high in Turkey, a good showing will go a long way towards sparking growth in the sport in the coming years.

Head Coach: Randoald Dessarzin
The Ivory Coast team is made up of players playing across Europe, with several in France, plus a few in college in the United States. The star of the team is guard Pape-Philippe Amagou, an All-Tournament selection at the last African Championships and a player with Euroleague experience. Another Ivory Coast player with experience at the elite level is center Mohamed Kone, who played his club basketball last season in Turkey. Other key players in the Ivory Coast lineup are playmaker Mouloukou Diabate, power forward Jonathan Kale and Eric Tape. The team also boasts several players aged 21 or younger, proving that this group could be the core of the Ivory Coast team of the future that hopes to establish itself as an African power and regular competitor at the world level.
