Euroleague Basketball players at World Championships
As the 2010 FIBA World Championships due to tipoff Saturday, even without all final rosters for the 24 teams finalized, one thing is abundantly clear: Euroleague Basketball players once again fill the international stage more than those of any other league or competition in the world! Nearly one-third of the 288 players players registered for the World Championships are affiliated with the Turkish Airlines Euroleague this coming season. A total of 68 players are among the 22 Euroleague Regular Season teams, while 18 more are from teams competing in the Euroleague Qualifying Rounds. Togethers, they will represent a total of 16 different national teams at the World Championships, also more than any other league. Additionally, there will be 3 Eurocup players on as many national teams at the World Championship, while nine players from four different national teams are among teams that will play the Eurocup Qualifying Round. The contingent of current Euroleague Basketball players with previous success at the World Championships is also greater than that of any other competition, let by three returning gold medallists from the 2006 Spanish team: Juan Carlos Navarro of Regal FC Barcelona, Felipe Reyes and Jorge Garbajosa of Real Madrid. Over the past decade, Euroleague Basketball players have taken home 43 medals at the World Championships, also more than any other league.
