Maroussi inks big man Askrabic
Ognjen Askrabic - TriumphMaroussi BC announced on Thursday the signing of big man Ognjen Askrabic to a one-year deal. Askrabic (207, 31) arrives from Ukrainian club BC Donetsk, where he averaged 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds last season. Askrabic hopes to make his return to the Euroleague with Maroussi for the first time since he played for Lottomatica Roma in the 2006-07 season. Askrabic grew up with KK Beovuk Belgrade and made his debut during the 1997-98 season in the Yugoslavian second division II. He joined FMP Zeleznik as a teenager and helped the team win the 2003 Serbia & Montenegro National Cup, the 2004 Adriatic League and reached the 2004 ULEB Cup semifinals. He later played for Dynamo St. Petersburg and Triumph Lyubertsy in Russia, Roma in Italy and BC Donetsk in Ukraine. Among Askrabic's other career highlights were helping St. Petersburg win the 2005 FIBA Europe League and playing at the 2006 World Championships with the Serbia and Montenegro national team.
