Barcelona puts former champ Rice in backcourt
FC Barcelona Lassa gave a new look to its backcourt by announcing on Tuesday the addition of former Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup champion, combo guard Tyrese Rice on a two-year deal. Rice (1.85 meters, 29 years old), who arrives from Khimki Moscow Region where he spent the past two seasons, is not only the lone player to win EuroLeague and EuroCup titles in back-to-back seasons, but he was also the MVP of 2014 EuroLeague Final Four, the 2014-15 EuroCup MVP and 2015 EuroCup Finals MVP in those two campaigns. Rice averaged 12.4 points, ranked fourth with 6.1 assists, also had 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals in the EuroLeague last season, which was his second in the competition. In 2013-14 season, his first in EuroLeague, he made sure to leave his mark in competition’s history for his performance at the Final Four in Milan, Italy. He first scored a game-winning basket for Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv to edge CSKA Moscow in the semifinals, then in the championship game scored 21 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead Maccabi to victory over Real Madrid. He was voted Final Four MVP for his performances, then the following season paced Khimki through an impressive EuroCup campaign, leading the team to the title and in process earning himself a pair of MVP awards. Barcelona will be seventh club in eight seasons for Rice. He started his professional career with Panionios Athens in Greece, and has also played with Artland Dragons and Bayern Munich in Germany, as well as Lietuvos Rytas in Lithuania.
