Turkish Airlines Euroleague logo unveiled
The new logo for the Turkish Airlines Euroleague was unveiled on Tuesday in Barcelona during a special presentation ceremony attended by representatives of Turkish Airlines, Euroleague Basketball, clubs, leagues and media.
The Turkish Airlines Euroleague logo is a fusion of the already existing Euroleague Basketball logo and that of Turkish Airlines, Europe's fourth-largest carrier of air passengers. The logo seeks to merge both companies' graphic identities and conserve their values and recognition by all fans across Europe, which is one of the biggest markets for Turkish Airlines, with more than 70 destinations.
The new Turkish Airlines Euroleague logo is one the first steps in the implementation process of the integrated partnership model that both companies are developing. Turkish Airlines will be the title sponsor of the top European basketball competition across the globe starting with in 2010-11 and running for four more seasons.
Comments of Mr. Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague CEO, at the logo unveiling ceremony:
"Good evening and thank you for joining us today at this event, a very important event for Euroleague Basketball because this is the first time we celebrate something like this in our ten years of history. Today, we are proud to present to you the new Turkish Airlines Euroleague, a new competition name that is the result of the agreement we have reached with Turkish Airlines, who will be with us the next five years, although we hope our partnership will be much longer.
"This has been an important decision for Euroleague Basketball, one we have made with conviction and, above all, with excitement. We are convinced that our competition has grown enough as to offer its name to a partner. We are convinced of our value, and that we are giving it to the proper partner. I would say, the ideal partner. "It is the ideal partner because of Turkish Airlines' prestige, because of the fact that in the last few years it has become one of the most successful airline companies worldwide. Also Euroleague Basketball, in the last few years, has not stopped growing thanks to the effort of our clubs, our players, coaches, referees, partners and the support of our fans.
"Our decision was made with excitement, because it opens a future for a common collaboration full of challenges to improve our league. And with a strong commitment, the commitment of Euroleague Basketball and that of our clubs to contribute to Turkish Airlines to continue its expansion in the airlines sector. Together, we will travel to 56 destinations, to 56 cities where games of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and the Eurocup will be held. In addition to this, and thanks to our TV partners, we will be able to take the Turkish Airlines Euroleague worldwide, to the five continents. Together, we will be at our Turkish Airlines Final Four, at the Eurocup Finals, at our Game of the Week, in our Our Corporate Social Responsibility programs, and wherever top-quality European basketball is present. Because this is a quality agreement, an agreement between two companies that represent excellence in our respective businesses.
"Growth, expansion, quality and excellence are four aspects that Turkish Airlines and Euroleague Basketball share, and upon these four concepts we are going to develop our partnership in the coming years. Upon these concepts, a new period of Euroleague Basketball starts coinciding with our second decade of life. A new period, a new name and new image of the competition, the image that will accompany us for many years.
"Before the presentation of the new image of the competition, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Hamdi Topçu, Turkish Airlines Chairman, for trusting sport, trusting basketball and trusting Euroleague Basketball. Our gratitude also goes to his entire team, with whom we have been working in the last few months, to be here today. You have our gratitude and our promise to work and devote every single minute of the next years to making our partnership grow."
Comments of Mr. Hamdi Topcu, Chairman of the Board of Turkish Airlines, at the logo unveiling ceremony:
"Dear guests and members of media, we are here together for an important event. I proudly welcome you all as we are going to start to give our name to the Euroleague, the most important basketball organization in Europe. The prestigious sponsorship agreements that we reach are one of the important initiatives of Turkish Airlines, who has a significant grow rate, combining high-quality service with competitive prices. The sponsorship agreements with two of the leading clubs in the world, FC Barcelona and Manchester United, have strengthened the value of Turkish Airlines. We also signed other sponsorship agreements of importance in basketball.
"It was always our preference to collaborate with other brands that would reinforce Turkish Airlines' position. It is essential for us, supporting not only football, but other sports events as well. We sponsored different sports events, from tennis to archery, and we will keep on with this strategy. Now, we unify our force with the continent's top basketball competition.
"Dear guests, today we are all here for a very important sponsorship agreement for us. This title partnership will run for five seasons, with the option of extending it to an additional five as the exciting competition will be named "Turkish Airlines Euroleague Basketball". Similarly, the Euroleague Final Four now becomes the Turkish Airlines Final Four, where the top-four teams will compete for the championship.
"With this agreement Turkish Airlines has also become the main sponsor of Eurocup, the biggest basketball competition in Europe after the Euroleague. This agreement is also very important for the Euroleague, as it is the first time in history that the league associated its name with a brand.
"At Turkish Airlines, our international flights generate 75 percent of our income, and 71 of our 127 international destinations are operated in Europe. This partnership also will make an excellent contribution to our brand value as our market share increases around the continent.
"We have achieved important success in our sector over the past years. During 2008 and 2009, we met our goals while the airline sector in general reduced its growth significantly. We carried 25.1 million passengers in 2009 with a growth rate of 11 percent and our aim is to carry 31 million passengers this year. Our eight-month performance so far this year demonstrates an increase of 20 percent compared to last year. We continue to make the necessary investments in order to reach our goals, and this agreement is part of them.
"Dear guests, 24 teams from 13 countries will compete in the "Turkish Airlines Euroleague" that started originally in 1958 under the name of European Cup. Today, we are also presenting to basketball fans the new logo realized by the combination of the logos of Turkish Airlines and Euroleague Basketball. During the following months, we will record commercial films with the presence of Euroleague players that will be shown around the world. The Turkish Airlines logo will be present on the courts in over 350 Euroleague and Euro Cup games that will be televised to 197 countries during the season. The games will have 1,500 hours of live coverage and will be followed by a total of 1.5 million on the courts. An increase of these numbers would mean that Turkish Airlines has reached its potential clients and has presented our quality to these new passengers.
"I want to express my special gratitude to Euroleague Basketball CEO Mr. Jordi Bertomeu and our colleagues who made this agreement come true. I hope this collaboration brings more success both to Turkish Airlines and Euroleague Basketball.
"Thank you very much."
