Bad news arrived for Lietuvos Rytas a week before the Turkish Airlines Euroleague season starts as point guard Jerry Johnson suffered a partial Achilles tendon tear in his right foot that will sideline him for at least 6 weeks, the club confirmed Thursday. Johnson (183, 28) signed a two-year contract in the summer and was playing as the L. Rytas starting point guard before suffering the injury in a Lithuanian League game on Wednesday. His injury coincides with another in the L. Rytas backcourt, as team captain Steponas Babrauskas was operated on for a wrist injury, too. Babrauskas, however, is expected to be back on court next week. Johnson was one of the team's top bets for this season. He ha recently led another Euroleague team, Spirou Basket, to Belgian League titles in 2008 and 2009. Lietuvos Rytas opens the Euroleague season on the road at Fenerbahce Ulker next Wednesday.
