Week 14 MVP: Vasco Evtimov, Climamio Bologna
Injury-plagued Climamio Bologna's valiant attempt to reach the Top 16 was ultimately unsuccessful, but came with a consolation prize, the best individual performance of Week 14. Despite its 78-84 road win at Prokom, Climamio fell short of the point difference needed to surpass Prokom in the standings. It wasn't for lack of trying, however, especially in the case of center Vasco Evtimov, who became Week 14 MVP with a 38 index rating. Evtimov, starting for one of Climamio's injured big men, paced his team with a monster double-double, 22 points and 15 rebounds. Evtimov shot 9-for-10 on two-pointers while adding 3 assists, 3 steals and 4 fouls drawn. Next came two players with the opposite luck: their teams suffered difficult home defeats, but nonetheless qualified for the Top 16. Predrag Drobnjak of Partizan was second in the weekly ratings (36 index) thanks to his 23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks in an overtime loss to Unicaja. Jeremiah Massey of Aris TT Bank was third (34 index) after scoring 22 points and pulling 10 rebounds in his team’s overtime defeat, against Winterthur FC Barcelona. Andrija Zizic (31) and teammate Giannis Bouroussis (28) of Olympiacos and Mire Chatman of Lottomatica Roma (28) completed the top individual performances of the week.
Individual and regular season highs: Navarro, top scorer
Nikola Vujcic of Maccabi Elite won the race for the highest average performance index rating for the regular season, with a 23.64 rating per game. Massey and Drobnjak were second and third, respectively. Horace Jenkins of Efes Pilsen and Andrija Zizic of Olympiacos were the Week 14 top scorers, each with 25 points. Jenkins ranked 13th (14.8 ppg.) and Zizic 21st (14.1 ppg.) in scoring at the end of the regular season. Barcelona's Juan Carlos Navarro was the regular season scoring champ with 18 points per game. Evtimov led all rebounders this week by pulling down 15 against Prokom Trefl. Evtimov finished 34th (5.1 rpg.) on the season rebounding charts despite playing less than 15 minutes per night. Tanoka Beard of Zalgiris Kaunas was the regular season rebounding lader (9.86 rpg.) by edging James Thomas of Climamio (9.85 rpg.). Theo Papaloukas of CSKA dished 12 assists in his team's home win over Fenerbahce Ulker and was also the regular season leader with 5.7 assists per game. Chatman and Andrew Wisniewski of Cibona each collected 6 steals, more than anyone this week. Chatman was second in the steal standings (2.9 spg.), trailing only the 16-year-old steals king, Ricky Rubio of DKV Joventut (3.45 spg.). Bouroussis had 4 blocks in his Olympiacos's home win against RheinEnergie and was 29th in the regular season standings, far behind the leader, Marcus Haislip of Efes Pilsen (1.93 bpg.). Seven players - Massey, Beard, Evtimov, Bouroussis, Immanuel McElroy of RheinEnergie, Lubos Barton of DKV Joventut and Brent Wright of Cibona - posted double-doubles this week.
