Milan Tomic and Alberto Herreros with Jordi Bertomeu - 2010-11 Turkish Airlines Euroleague opening gameHistory was in the air at a press conference on Monday held prior to the opening game of the 2010-11 Turkish Airlines Euroleague season in Piraeus, Greece. While out on the court, host Olympiacos and Real Madrid warmed up for the first tipoff of the new season, two players from the same historic matchup 10 years ago, Milan Tomic and Alberto Herreros, joined Euroleague Basketball CEO Jordi Bertomeu in commemorating the one-decade anniversary. It was on October 16, 2000 in the Spanish capital that Real Madrid hosted Olympiacos in what was the first opening game of the century under the direction of Euroleague Basketball. One decade later, both Tomic and Herreros are the sports directors at their respective clubs. Later, on the floor before tipoff, Tomic and Herreros and the current captains of their teams, Theo Papaloukas and Felipe Reyes, repsectively, were presented with framed copies of the official scoresheet from that game on October 16, 2000.
