Barcelona pens Koponen to three-year deal
FC Barcelona Lassa will reunite Petteri Koponen with his Khimki Moscow Region backcourt partner Tyrese Rice after signing the former to a three-year deal. Koponen (1.94 meters, 28 years old) spent the past four seasons with Khimki, with whom he teamed with Rice to win the 2015 EuroCup crown and was named to that season’s All-EuroCup First Team. Last season, he averaged 8.5 points on 38.1% three-point shooting and 2.3 assists in 24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games plus 11.4 points on 45.2% shooting from downtown and 3.6 assists in 35 VTB United League appearances. A native of Finland, Koponen began his career there with Honka Espoo and later spent four seasons with Virtus Bologna in Italy before moving to Khimki. Koponen helped Bologna win the 2009 Euro Challenge and has been a long time member of the Finnish national team.
