Union Olimpija signs top prospect Bertans

Davis Bertans (Photo: FIBA Europe/Robertas Dackus)Union Olimpija fortified its roster with an eye on the future with the signing of top prospect Davis Bertans to a multi-year deal. Bertans (205, 18) is a small forward who arrives from BK Barons Riga in his native Latvia. He is also the younger brother of VEF Riga guard Dairis Bertans. Davis averaged 13 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block per game this season for Barons in the Latvian League. Bertans starred on the Latvian national team last summer at the European Under-18 Championships in Lithuania, leading his side to a bronze medal. He was selected to the all-tournament team after recording 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, including a 24-point, 8-rebound effort in the bronze-medal game.
