Italy: Venice takes 3-2 lead in a thriller
Umana Reyer Venice has come one win away from a historic success after rallying late to beat Dolomiti Energia Trento 65-63 in Game 5 on Sunday night. Venice leads best-of-seven Italian League finals series 3-2, and can clinch its first Italian League title in 74 years with one more win. Home team’s hero was Michael Bramos who, with his team trailing 62-63, nailed a game-winning three-pointer with only 7 seconds left on the clock. Trento had final possession, but failed to score.
A three-pointer by Bramos capped u huge comeback by Venice, which trailed for most of the game. Trento took the lead late in the first quarter, and took control in the second, taking 28-38 lead into halftime. Margin was as big as 12 points in the third quarter, and Aaron Craft scored on a fast break to make it 52-61 with 5:30 left in the game. But Marquez Haynes scored 7 points to get the hosts back within a single point, before Bramos scored to get Venice a victory. Haynes led the victors with 13 points, and Tyrus McGee had 11 for Venice. Dustin Hogue score 17, and Craft had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Trento, which hosts Game 6 on Tuesday.
