HOW DID THEY GET HERE? Partizan mt:s
Partizan
Just as last season, Partizan mt:s overcame a slow start to storm into the Top 16, surviving a very tough Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season Group A with convincing wins, especially at home. Just as in recent off-seasons Partizan needed to rebuild, but this time did so with a new coach, Vlade Jovanovic, who has kept the team as versatile, unpredictable and tactically interesting as it was last season, when the Serbian champion made it to the Final Four. Partizan waited until the very last minute to bring in new players and that caused the team to amass early losses, but the team won four of its last seven games to stay alive in the competition. James Gist (12.9 ppg., 7.3 rpg.) and Jan Vesely (7.3 ppg.) are natural-born mismatchs that have provided some of the best highlights with their dunks and physical play thus far. Nathan Jawai (10.2 ppg., 5.7 rpg.) has been rock-solid in the paint and Dusan Kecman (8.5 ppg.) keeps his reputation as a can't-miss clutch player. With its Top 16 games moving to the 20,000-seat Belgrade Arena, expect Partizan to keep making noise in the Top 16.

REGULAR SEASON KEY FACTS
  • Key win: 62-69 against Prokom in Gdynia. Partizan had just lost at home against Maccabi, but quickly bounced back and started a three-game winning streak that was critical to its staying alive in the competition. Gist led Partizan with 16 points and Jawai added 15.
  • Key stat: Despite being the lowest-scoring team in the regular season (65.8 ppg.), Partizan made it to the Top 16. It is also first in fouls committed (245) and third in offensive rebounds (127), which shows its aggressiveness as a team.
  • Key play: Partizan needed a Game 9 win at home against Prokom to reach the Top 16. It all came down to the last play as Gist, who had shot 3 for 14 from the field at that point, lifted a winning layup that set Pionir Arena on fire, 61-59, with less than a second to go. Partizan had made it to the next round.
  • Key contributor: The best is yet to come for Curtis Jerrells, who arrived midway through the season straight from the United States and had to adjust to a new competition on this side of the Atlantic in record time. Jerrells will be ready to give his best in the Top 16, so expect Partizan to be even better from now on.
  • Key intangible: It is THE social activity in Belgrade. Every Partizan Turkish Airlines Euroleague home game is a one-of-a-kind experience for all basketball fans that have the luck to witness it - from the pre-game hymns to the post-game celebrations - whether the team wins the game or not!
