Roma lands Chiacig, Stefansson, Gabini

Roberto Chiacig Lottomatica Roma has improved its roster for the upcoming Top 16 by inking center Roberto Chiacig and off-guard Jon Stefansson. Chiacig (208, 32) and Gabini (198, 31) join Roma for the remainder of the season while Stefansson (192, 24) inked a deal for one extra year, until summer 2008. Both Chiacig and Stefansoon arrive from Pamesa Valencia, that got Loukas Mavrokefalidis on loan in return, while Gabini broke his contract with CB Granada to join Roma. Chiacig averaged 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 20 Spanish League games, while Stefansson had an average of 4.1 points in 16 games with Pamesa. Chiacig has also played for Montepaschi Siena, Montecatini, Fortitudo, Padova and Benetton in Italy, as well as for AEK Athens in Greece. He won the 2004 Italian League title, the 2002 Saporta Cup title and made it to consecutive Euroleague Final Fours in 2003 and 2004 with Montepaschi. Chiacig also took part in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games with the Italian national team. Meanwhile, Stefansson has also played for Napoli in Italy, Dynamo St.Petersburg in Russia, the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA, TBB Trier in Germany, as well as for KR Reykjavik in his native Iceland. He helped Napoli to win the Italian TIM Cup last season. Gabini averaged 11.1 points and 1.5 steals with Granada last season and helped Tau Ceramica to make it to the 2005 Euroleague Final Four. He has also played for Rimini in Italy, as well as for Regatas San Nicolas, Obras Sanitarias and Atenas Cordoba in his native Argentina.
