Euroleague Basketball, SPORT newspaper together again
For the second time in a decade, Euroleague Basketball and the daily newspaper SPORT in Barcelona, Spain will join forces to promote the biggest weekend on the world basketball calendar. The two parties signed an agreement on Monday that makes SPORT the official sports newspaper of the 2011 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four, to be held from May 6 to 8 in Barcelona. The agreement includes an increased presence in the SPORT newspaper and on-line editions of all the Turkish Airlines Euroleague phases before the Final Four, as well as extended content in the lead-up to the event itself. As part of the agreement, SPORT will publish special supplements to its newspaper during Final Four weekend, to preview the event, and shortly after, in a section dedicated to the title game. In addition, SPORT will host games and contents on its website and in its newspaper to let fans in Barcelona get closer to the action with great prizes. This marks the second such collaboration between Euroleague Basketball and SPORT, which was the official sports newspaper of the 2003 Final Four in Barcelona, as well.
"We are very satisfied to announce this agreement with SPORT, one of the main sports daily newspapers not only in Spain, but in Europe," Euroleague Basketball CEO Jordi Bertomeu said. "This is another step in the countdown to the 2011 Turkish Airlines Final Four, one that will guarantee a high level of coverage for the signature event of the season. This brings together Euroleague Basketball and SPORT for the second time after the successful experience that we had during the 2003 Final Four, held in Barcelona, too."
Joan Vehils, Director of SPORT, evaluated the agreement in a very positive way.
"For SPORT, it is a pleasure to collaborate with a organization of such high standing as the Euroleague during one of the most important events on the calendar, the Final Four, which brings together the best four European teams of the season. This is even truer when the Final Four is being played in Barcelona, and will go beyond a sports event to become a party for the city, which will be able to witness unforgettable moments that will recall the 1992 Olympic Games."
Mr. Vehils made special mention of the growth trajectory that the Euroleague has reached in its 10-year history. "Jordi Bertomeu has created an organization that has made a qualitative leap in the basketball world, that has brought Europe closer to the NBA and that continues laying the foundations for the future," Vehils said.
