Disciplinary judge's decision: Lottomatica Roma-Union Olimpija
Euroleague Basketball's independent disciplinary judge has dismissed the protest concerning clock malfunction during the last play of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 Week 1 game between Lottomatica Roma and Union Olimpija Ljubljana. The protest was filed by Lottomatica Roma with regards to its final attempt to score. After having evaluated all the necessary information, the Independent judge states in his final decision:
"It is certain that the members of the refereeing team clearly explained the circumstances which led to their final position in connection with the valid end of the game. They took their decision only after evaluating all the parameters, including the ‘game clock incident’. Their decision was certainly not the result of an arbitrary choice and was obviously not based on an unfounded evaluation of the situation. The field referees were aware of the situation and, notwithstanding the technical malfunction, decided to validate the final score. They have taken an informed decision and there is no evidence of an eventual breach of impartiality, which could be inconsistent with the principles of justice and fairness as provided by article 2 of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Regulation.”
"As a result, the Disciplinary Judge considers that his intervention in the present matter is not justified, as there is no regulatory base allowing him to overrule or re-examine the field referees' decision, which is final.”
