Playoffs Game 1 MVP: Richard Hendrix, Maccabi Electra
It took a record-setting double-double on opening night for Richard Hendrix of Maccabi Electra to earn the Sportingbet MVP honor for Game 1 of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Playoffs. Despite his team's road loss against Caja Laboral, Hendrix led Maccabi with 16 points on 8-of-13 two-pointers and 16 rebounds. His 9 defensive rebounds to go with 7 on the offensive glass amounted to highest rebounding total by any player in one game during the six-year history of the Euroleague playoffs. He added 4 blocks and 2 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 28, the highest of all Euroleague players in their playoffs openers. Ioannis Bourousis of Olympiacos needed just 16 points to get a double-double in his team's record-setting home win against Montepaschi Siena. Bourousis, just back from an injury, had 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 6 fouls drawn, good for a 26 index rating. Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos posted his Euroleague career-best scoring night with 26 points by making 4 of 7 three-pointers and 6 of 6 free throws, although the Greens lost their opener to Regal FC Barcelona. Diamantidis added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 fouls drawn for a 23 index rating. Two more Game 1 winners, Loukas Mavrokefalidis of Olympiacos, with a 21 index rating, and Stanko Barac of Caja Laboral, at 19, completed the top individual performances in Game 1 of the Playoffs.
Individual highs: Omar Cook of Power Electronics Valencia, 8 assists
Diamantidis was Game 1's top scorer with 26 points. Obviously, Hendrix led all rebounders with 16 boards. Omar Cook of Power Electronics Valencia, a three-time Top 16 assists leader, dished 8 assists against Real Madrid in Game 1 - more than anyone else. Six players - Chuck Eidson and Jeremy Pargo of Maccabi, Yotam Halperin and Jamon Gordon of Olympiacos, Shaun Stonerook of Montepaschi and Ante Tomic of Real Madrid - each collected 3 steals in Game 1. Hendrix had 4 blocks on Tuesday, too, the most of the night. Hendrix, Bourousis and Mirza Teletovic of Caja Laboral, who posted 12 points and 11 rebounds, registered respective double-doubles in Game 1.
