Caja Laboral and Ivanovic: two more years
One of the longest and most successful relationships between a Turkish Airlines Euroleague club and a head coach will continue as Caja Laboral announced Monday a new two-year agreement with Dusko Ivanovic. The deal would complete a full decade's relationship between the two since Ivanovic, now 53, first joined the club in 2000. In that first season, he brought Tau Ceramica to the very last game of the 2001 Euroleauge playoffs finals before finishing as runner-up, just as he did in 2005, after guiding the team to its first-ever Final Four. After two-and-a-half seasons with F.C. Barcelona, he returned to Vitoria, where the team's name had changed to Caja Laboral. In each of the last three seasons, Caja Laboral reached the Euroleague playoffs, falling in the last one to Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv in four games. Along the way, Ivanovic led the club to its first Spanish League title, in 2002, and its last, in 2010. They also won three Spanish Cups together, in 2002, 2004 and 2009. Prior to arriving in Vitoria in 2000, Ivanovic had also won three Swiss League titles as head coach of Fribourg and one French League title as head coach of Limoges. He had been an accomplished player, as well, winning back-to-back Euroleague crowns in 1989 and 1990 with Jugoplastika Split of Croatia.
