Top 16, Week 2 MVP: Jamie Arnold, Maccabi Elite
Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv not only earned a key road win against Lottomatica Roma in Top 16 Week 2, but one of its players also had the top individual performance this week. Jamie Arnold led Maccabi to a 69-71 road win at Roma with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. His scoring came on 5-for-7 two-point and 7-for-8 free-throw shooting. He added an assist and drew 7 fouls for a total index rating of 29 and his first Euroleague MVP-of-the-week honor. Luis Scola of Tau Ceramica and Bojan Popovic of Dynamo Moscow tied for the second-best performances of Week 2 with index ratings of 28 each. Scola led Tau to a 89-99 road win against Pau-Orthez with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 8 fouls drawn. Meanwhile, Popovic had 17 points on 6-of-6 free throws, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 9 fouls drawn in Dynamo's road loss at Benetton Treviso. Panathinaikos teammates Sani Becirovic and Dimitris Diamantidis, each with a 27 index, completed the top five individual performances of the week.
Individual highs: Ricky Rubio, 7 steals
Becirovic led all scorers in Week 2 of the Top 16 with 24 points in the Panathinaikos home win against Winterthur FC Barcelona. After his big scoring night, Becirovic ranks 20th in the Top 16 scoring list (14 ppg.), while the overall leader is Scoonie Penn of Olympiacos (21.5 ppg.). Sam Hoskin of Olympiacos was the top rebounder of the week, pulling down 13 boards in his team's road loss at DKV Joventut. Hoskin ties for eighth place in the Top 16 rebounds list (7 rpg.), now led by Kerem Gonlum of Efes Pilsen (9.5 rpg.). Juan Carlos Navarro of Winterthur FCB dished a Euroleague career-high 9 assists this week and leads the Top 16 standings at 8.5 per game. Navarro was the regular season top scorer and is showing he can share the ball, too. Teen sensation Ricky Rubio of Joventut collected 7 steals and climbed atop the Top 16 standings (4 spg.), after having been steals champ in the regular season, too. This is the third time that Rubio recorded 7 steals in a Euroleague game this season. Marcus Haislip of Efes Pilsen and Thomas Van den Spiegel of CSKA Moscow each had 4 blocks this week. Van den Spiegel leads the Top 16 board at 3 per game. Five players - Haislip, Hoskin, Arnold, Dejan Tomasevic of Panathinaikos and Fred House of Tau Ceramica - recorded double-doubles this week.
