Real Madrid improved its backcourt for the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague season by inking shooting guard Marty Pocius to a two-year deal, the club announced Thursday. Pocius (1.96 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Zalgiris Kaunas, where he averaged 10.9 points and 2.3 assists in 16 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. In his two seasons with Zalgiris, Pocius has helped his former team win the Lithuanian League and the Lithuanian Cup titles in 2011, and lift back-to-back Baltic League trophies. He arrived to Zalgiris from four seasons at Duke University, where he saw limited action. Pocius is also a regular member of the Lithuanian national team, with whome he won a bronze medal at last summer's World Championships in Turkey. Pocius has also played on the Lithuanian junior national teams. He was the third-leading scorer at the 2006 U-20 European championships in Izmir, Turkey, averaging 20 points per game. "You never know in which direction your career can turn," Pocius said. "I didn't plan, want or expect to play for any other club expect Zalgiris, but Real Madrid made an attractive offer for me and for the club."
