Partizan brings former All-Euroleaguer Pekovic home
Partizan mt:s Belgrade supped up its frontline by signing favorite son Nikola Pekovic for the season. Pekovic (2.10 meters, 25 years old) is a former Euroleague champ and an All-Euroleague selection, who spent three formative seasons in black-and-white between 2005 and 2008. He was a member of the 2008-09 All-Euroleague First Team, the same season in which he helped Panathinaikos win the title. Between 2007 and 2010, Pekovic was one of the most dominant players in European basketball. More impressive than his 14.8 points per game, which was among the top 10 in the 2009-10 season, Pekovic led the league in per-minute scoring with an average of 26.9 points over 40 minutes. The previous season, he led the league in both per-minute scoring (28.6 points per 40) and per-minute performance index rating (30.7 over 40 minutes) to help the Greens to the Euroleague crown. Pekovic’s breakout year was 2007-08 with Partizan, when he was top 10 in the league in scoring (16.4 ppg.) and rebounding (6.9 rpg.) and second in the league in per-minute index rating at 29.1 over 40 minutes. That season Pekovic finished as the runner-up to Danilo Gallinari of Armani Jeans Milano in the voting for the Euroleague Rising Star Trophy. During his career, Pekovic has won the Serbian League title three times, the Greek and Adriatic Leagues twice each and the Greek Cup and Serbian Cup once each. He is also a member of the Montenegrin national team. Pekovic arrives from Minnesota of the NBA, for whom he averaged 5.5 points and 3 rebounds in 65 games last season. Pekovic will join Partizan only after he finishes his commitment to the Montenegrin national team at EuroBasket 2011.
