Union Olimpija signs big Rothbart
Robert Rothbart (Photo: BSL)Union Olimpija Ljubljana signed promising center Robert Rothbart, who arrives from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. Rothbart (2.17 meters, 25 years old) averaged 5.8 points and 4 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game in the Israeli League last season. His numbers jumped to 9.7 points on a competition-best 69.4% two-point shooting plus 5.3 rebounds for Haifa in the FIBA EuroChallenge. Rothbart is a native of Bosnia, who moved to Israel as a child before settling in the United States. After finishing high school, he decided to play professionally in Europe and signed with Racing Paris in France. He has also suited up for Borac Nektar in Bosnia and Galil Elyon, Ironi Nahariya and Elitzur Netanya in Israel. He was expected to play for Israel at EuroBasket 2011 next month before a minor foot injury sidelined him.
