Germany's SPORT1 expands Turkish Airlines Euroleague broadcasts
Euroleague Basketball is proud to announce a new agreement that will bring Turkish Airlines Euroleague games to more basketball fans in Germany during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons than ever before. The agreement reinforces Euroleague Basketball's efforts to expand the visibility of the competition in existing markets as well as new ones. "We have already had a great relationship with Sport1 in Germany and we are confident that this new agreement will only enhance the viewing experience for fans in that market, creating an even bigger audience there," said Andrea Bassani, Euroleague Basketball's Chief of Television and New Media Rights Officer. "Serious fans as well as those who are curious about basketball can count on the professionalism that Sport1 provides and the excitement that Euroleague games guarantee."
Sport 1 signed a two-year agreement to cover all games of Germany's representative in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Brose Baskets Bamberg, as well as additional weekly games up to the Final Four in May 2012. Some of the games will be broadcast on Sport 1's main, over-the-air terrestrial channel, others on its Sport 1+ pay service. Sport1 will also make history by host-broadcasting the Game of the Week on November 17, a first for German basketball, in which Bamberg hosts Euroleague champion Panathinaikos, to be produced in high-definition format.
“With the Euroleague, we are offering our audience Europe's top class on our SPORT1 platforms to round off an outstanding year of basketball in 2011," said Sport1 editor-in-chief Alexander Rösner.
