Montepaschi loses Lavrinovic, too
Ksistof Lavrinovic - Montepaschi SienaFor the second time in a week, Montepaschi Siena has lost one of its Lithuanian stars long-term, as center Ksistof Lavrinovic underwent back surgery on Monday that will keep him off the court for two to three months. Lavrinovic (2.12 meters, 32 years old) missed the team's last Turkish Airlines Euroleague game, a victory over Union Olimpija in Slovenia, due to back problems. The loss of Lavrinovic comes within the same week that Montepaschi saw shooting guard Rimantas Kaukenas sidelined indefinitely with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Kaukenas, the team's second-best scorer with 14.5 points per game, was operated on later last week. Lavrinovic, who is averaging 9.5 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds, was voted to the All-Euroleague team last season for the second time in four years. As if all that were not enough, Montepaschi's leading scorer, Bo McCalebb, won't make this week's trip to Istanbul to play Galatasaray Medical Park while he nurses a hamstring injury. Fortunately for Siena fans, last week's victory in Ljubljana against Union Olimpija let Montepaschi qualify early for the Top 16 with a 5-2 record so far, the same as Unics Kazan.
