Top 16, Week 2 bwin MVP: Bo McCalebb, Montepaschi Siena
The brilliance of Bo McCalebb could be seen time and time again on Wednesday night. The Montepaschi Siena playmaker powered his team to an impressive 69-88 victory over Real Madrid at the Community of Madrid Sports Palace with one of his finest performances in an already brilliant Euroleague career. McCalebb established career highs with 25 points and a performance index rating of 36, which netted him Top 16, Week 2 bwin MVP honors. McCalebb scored 10 points and dished 2 assists in the first quarter alone as the visitors jumped out to an 18-point lead and never looked back. By the time the game was over, he had made 9 of 10 two-point shots, 1 of 2 three-pointers and all 4 free throws he attempted. Additionally he tallied 3 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal to make up his impressive index, which is tied for the fourth best of any player all season. McCalebb not only claimed Euroleague weekly MVP honors for the second time – the first was in Regular Season Week 9 last year – he also joined Pietro Aradori as the second Siena player to do so this season. McCalebb is now ranked second in the Euroleague this season with an average performance index rating of 21.7. The only man with a better index for the season is CSKA Moscow forward Andrei Kirilenko at 28.1 per game. Kirilenko was second to McCalebb this week with an index of 30 in his team’s 96-68 demolition of Anadolu Efes. Kirilanko missed just 1 shot en route to a stat line of 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Third on the list of Top 16, Week 2’s best performers was Unics Kazan scorer Henry Domercant, who netted 21 points and a 29 index in an 83-89 win at Panathinaikos. Rounding out the list of the week’s best performances are Felipe Reyes, who had 17 points, 15 rebounds and a 28 index for Madrid, and Mason Rocca, who tallied 16 points, 11 rebounds and a 27 index in EA7 Emporio Armani’s 65-63 loss at Fenerbahce Ulker.
Individual highs: Felipe Reyes, 15 rebounds
McCalebb was also the week’s No. 1 scorer and with 18.7 points per game, is ranked second in the Euroleague to Vassilis Spanoulis among active players in the Top 16. Reyes’s 15 rebounds were the most seen in the week. His average of 10 rebounds per game in the Top 16 is second behind only Efes forward Dusko Savanovic with 12.5 per game. Omar Cook of Armani and Viktor Khryapa of CSKA share the week’s high in assists with 8 each. Cook, with 5.5 assists per game, is ranked second and Khryapa, with 5.5 per game, third in the Top 16 in assists per game. Unics guard Petr Samoylenko leads the Top 16 with 6 per game.
