Did you know? Regular Season Round 2

Sep 02, 2018 by Euroleague.net Print

You know that the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague is the only major round-robin team competition in Europe.

You know, therefore, that fans anywhere can see every major club and superstar player go against their own teams.

And you know what that adds up to – season-long drama that only the EuroLeague can deliver!

BUT…. did you know the following about the games of Round 2?

One Team RS02

Darussafaka Istanbul vs. Buducnost VOLI Podgorica

These teams met last season in the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals.

Darussafaka swept the series, 2-0, but it was not easy as Buducnost came within 3 points of winning Game 1 in Istanbul.

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv vs. CSKA Moscow

This is Maccabi's first home opener this century against CSKA.

The hosts, however, have not won in their last 11 non-Final Four games against CSKA, which has not lost in Tel Aviv so far this decade.

FC Bayern Munich vs. Panathinaikos Athens

No player in this game has been on a team in the other's country.

No Panathinaikos player has ever been on a German team and no Bayern player has ever been on a Greek team.

Herbalife Gran Canaria vs. FC Barcelona Lassa

Two Gran Canaria players made their EuroLeague debuts with Barcelona.

Perimeter players Marcus Ericsson and Xavi Rabaseda appeared in a total of 63 EuroLeague games for the visitors earlier this decade.

Anadolu Efes Istanbul vs. Zalgiris Kaunas

Two Efes players made their EuroLeague debuts with Zalgiris.

James Anderson did so in 2014-15 and Brock Motum did so the next year.

Fenerbahce Istanbul vs. Khimki Moscow Region

Khimki has never won a EuroLeague road game vs. Fenerbahce.

The visitors are 0 for 4 tries at the Ulker Sports and Event Hall, their first loss having come back on opening day in 2012.

KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz vs. Olympiacos Piraeus

Olympiacos and Baskonia's 36 games together tie for the most between EuroLeague opponents this century.

Olympiacos has won 21 games of the series – including 4 of the last 7 in Vitoria – and Baskonia has won 15 total.

AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan vs. Real Madrid

Milan has not beaten Madrid, home or away, this decade.

In fact, Milan's 70-61 victory on January 8, 2009 was its only one against Madrid this century. Madrid has won their other 11 games, including 10 in a row!
