Sep 05, 2018 by Euroleague.net Print

You know that the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague is the only major round-robin team competition in Europe.

You know, therefore, that fans anywhere can see every major club and superstar player go against their own teams.

And you know what that adds up to – season-long drama that only the EuroLeague can deliver!

BUT…. did you know the following about the games of Round 5?

One Team RS05

CSKA Moscow vs. Olympiacos Piraeus

Hines took Olympiacos to back-to-back EuroLeague glory.

CSKA center Kyle Hines helped Olympiacos win back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2012 and 2013. Olympiacos beat CSKA in the 2012 final in come-from-behind fashion, 62-61.

Fenerbahce Istanbul vs. FC Bayern Munich

Fenerbahce is undefeated against Bayern.

Fenerbahce is 4-0 against Bayern, which it beat twice in the 2014-15 EuroLeague regular season and twice more in the same phase a year later.

FC Barcelona Lassa vs. Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv

This will be the 40th game between these teams.

The first matchup between these two multi EuroLeague-winning powerhouses came in 1982. Barcelona has won 24 of its 39 matchups against Maccabi.

Khimki Moscow Region vs. Herbalife Gran Canaria

This game is a rematch of the 2015 EuroCup Finals.

Khimki and Gran Canaria met in the 2015 7DAYS EuroCup Finals, which was played as a two-game, total-points series. Khimki swept the series by an aggregate score of 174-130. The teams have not faced each other again - until now!

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica vs. Panathinaikos OPAP Athens

These teams meet for the first time in 16 years.

KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz vs. Darussafaka Istanbul

Darussafaka has bad memories from Buesa Arena.

AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan vs. Anadolu Efes Istanbul

Efes tasted European glory at Mediolanum Forum.

Efes downed Milan in the 1996 Korac Cup final. Despite a 77-70 loss on March 13, Efes took the two-game, total-points series 146-145 to win the first European title for any Turkish team - in any sport!
