Playoffs, Game 3 bwin MVP: Kostas Vasiliadis, Gescrap BB
In the most important win in club history, Gescrap BB sharpshooter Kostas Vasiliadis was the star that shined brightest. Vasiliadis drained 4 of 8 from downtown en route to 20 points as the Men in Black routed mighty CSKA Moscow 94-81 for a win in Gescrap’s first-ever playoff game at home. In addition to the win, Vasiliadis can also celebrate being the Playoffs Game 3 bwin MVP. He got his team going early by sparking a 12-0 first-quarter run and continued pumping in baskets the rest of the night. Vasiliadis finished with 6 rebounds and 2 assists in racking up the highest performance index rating of any player on a winning team in Game 3 of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Playoffs – 21. In doing so, Vasiliadis joined teammate Aaron Jackson as the only Gescrap players to have achieved this distinction. Jackson was bwin MVP for Top 16, Week 4. Ironically, the highest index of the week came from the team Vasiliadis and co. defeated. Nenad Krstic was perfect from the field in scoring 22 points as he recorded an index of 25. Next on the list is Olympiacos guard Kostas Sloukas, who had a 20 index in his team’s 75-55 win over Montepaschi Siena. Sloukas missed just 1 shot in scoring 11 points and added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Rounding out the list of the week’s top performers were Jackson, Juan Carlos Navarro of FC Barcelona Regal and Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos, all with index ratings of 19. Jackson had 13 points, 8 assists and 2 steals in Gescrap’s win. Navarro helped Barcelona sweep its series against Kazan with 21 points and 3 assists. And Diamantidis, the reigning Euroleague MVP, collected 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in a 65-62 loss at Maccabi Electra.
Individual leaders: Theo Papaloukas, 4 steals
Krstic was the top scorer during Game 3 of the playoffs with the 22 points he hung on Gescrap. Krstic is among the playoff leaders with 15 points per game. David Andersen of Montepaschi leads the pack with 17.3 points per game. Kyle Hines of Olympiacos and Devin Smith of Maccabi Electra each had 9 rebounds in their teams’ respective home wins, which led all players in Game 3s. Smith is the playoffs top rebounder with 8 per game. Jackson’s 8 assists also set the standard in Game 3. He is among the top 5 in the playoffs now with 5 assists per game. The playoffs leaders in assists are Diamantidis and Barcelona’s Marcelinho Huertas with 6.3 per game each. Theo Papaloukas, the all-time Euroleague leader in steals, added 4 more to his collection and led all players in Game 3. Three players – Papaloukas’s teammate at Maccabi Yogev Ohayon, Barcelona forward Pete Mickeal and Montepaschi captain Shaun Stonerook – share the playoffs lead with 2.3 steals per game. Another Maccabi player, Richard Hendrix, was Game 3’s top shot-blocker with 3. Boni Ndong of Barcelona is the playoff leader with 6 blocks over three games.
