Top 16 Week 5 MVP: Michael Wright, Pau-Orthez
An intense overtime thriller that meant qualification for one team and elimination for the other provided the top individual performance of the Top 16, Week 5. Michael Wright of Elan Bearnais Pau-Orthez became weekly MVP with an index rating of 31 after scoring 24 points on 6-for-9 two-point and 12-for-16 free-throw shooting in his team's OT home loss against Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv. Wright added 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 11 fouls drawn in the losing effort. From the same game, Tal Burstein of Maccabi posted the second-highest rating of the week, 29. Burstein helped Maccabi win 94-98 and clinch a playoff spot with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Uros Tripkovic of Partizan was third in the rankings with a 27 index. Tripkovic shined in his team's road win against DKV Joventut and allowed Partizan to keep its playoff hopes alive with 26 points on 3 of 3 two-pointers and 6 of 8 triples. Trajan Langdon of CSKA Moscow (index 26), Tiago Splitter of Tau Ceramica (25) and Marcus Haislip of Efes Pilsen (25) completed the top individual performances of the week.
Individual highs: Uros Tripkovic of Partizan, 26 points
Tripkovic was the top scorer of the week with 26 points against Joventut. Tripkovic had totaled 29 points in his 4 previous Top 16 games and now ranks 31st in the Top 16 scoring chart (11.4 ppg.), far off the leader, Alex Scales of Aris TT Bank (18.4 ppg.). Ricardo Greer of Pau-Orthez led all rebounders by grabbing 14 against Maccabi Elite. Greer, a small forward, is the second-best rebounder in this phase (8.2 rpg.), right behind Haislip (9.2 rpg.). Drew Nicholas of Efes Pilsen, the Alphonso Ford Scoring Trophy winner last season, led the week in assists by dishing 8 in his team's home win against Winterthur FC Barcelona. Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos became the new Top 16 assists leader (5.6 rpg.), overtaking Juan Carlos Navarro of Barcelona (5 apg.). Elmer Bennett of DKV Joventut, his teammate Charles Gaines, Spencer Nelson and Preston Shumpert of Benetton, Marcus Faison of Unicaja and Alessandro Tonolli of Lottomatica Roma each collected 4 steals this week. Ricky Rubio of DKV Joventut is back atop the Top 16 steals list (2.6 spg.). Jamie Arnold of Maccabi Elite and Predrag Drobnjak of Partizan each had 3 blocks this week, but Haislip leads the Top 16 standings (1.6 bpg.). Greer and Haislip posted the only two double-doubles this week.
