Telenet Oostende keeps core intact
June 28, 2012
Telenet Oostende made moves to keep the core of its 2011-12 Belgian championship squad intact by re-signing or extending the deals of four players: Dragisa Dronbnjak, Veselin Petrovic, Dusan Katnic and Quentin Serron.
Forward Dronbnjak (2.00 meters, 35 years old) signed a one-year deal for 2012-13. He averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in the Eurocup last season and 8.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in the Belgian League. Dronbnjak is a well-travelled veteran who has also featured for Krka Novo Mesto, Union Olimpija and Geoplin Slovan in his native Slovenia, Alba Berlin in Germany and PGE Turow Zgorzelec in Poland. His roll of honors includes winning the 2011 EuroChallenge, five Slovenian and one Belgian championships and two Slovenian and one Belgian Cups.
Petrovic (1.95 meters, 34 years old) re-opened his contract and signed an extension through the 2013-14 season. The swingman has been with Oostende for the past seven seasons. Last season he averaged 6.4 points in the Eurocup and 7.3 points in the Belgian League. Petrovic has previously played for Partizan Belgrade and FMP in his native Serbia, Buducnost in Montenegro and RBC Verviers-Pepinster in Belgium. Among his career highlights are winning the gold medal at EuroBasket 2001 with the Yugoslavian national team. He has also won three national championships and five cups during his career.
Katnic (1.94 meters, 23 years old) remains on for another season as the backup point guard. He was worth 6 points and 1.8 assists in the Eurocup and 5.3 points and 1 assist per game in the Belgian League. Katnic is a product of the Atlas Belgrade junior system. He has played professionally for Mega Ishrana and Crvena Zvezda in his native Serbia and has been with Oostende for the past two-and-a-half seasons. Katnic represented Serbia at the junior levels and won gold medals at the European and world championships.
Home-grown product Serron (1.90 meters, 22 years old) extended his contract through the 2014-15 season. He averaged 3 points and 1.5 rebounds in a reserve role in the Eurocup and 4 points and 2.1 rebounds in the Belgian League. Serron is a member of the Belgian national team.
