Spanish League champion FC Barcelona Regal signed center Ante Tomic to a three-year deal, the club announced Thursday. Barcelona keeps an option to extend the deal until the end of the 2015-16 season. Tomic (2.17 meters, 25 years old) arrives from archrivals Real Madrid, where he averaged 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. He also produced 8.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in the Spanish League. He spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with Los Blancos after signing in January 2010. In Tomic’s time there, he helped the club to reach the 2011 Euroleague Final Four and win the 2012 Spanish King’s Cup. He played at the junior level for KK Dubrovnik and KK Zadar in his native Croatia, but it was at KK Zagreb that he became a star. He was among the Adriatic League leaders in scoring and rebounding in his last two seasons in Zagreb. Tomic is also a regular with the Croatian national team and led that squad in scoring (16.6 ppg.) and rebounding (6.2 rpg.) at EuroBasket 2011 last summer. He replaces Kosta Perovic, as Barcelona did not pick up its option to keep him in the team next season.
