Partizan mt:s picks up promising guard Westermann
Partizan mt:s announced the signing of promising guard Leo Westermann to a three-year deal. Westermann (1.96 meters, 19 years old) arrives from Asvel Basket, where he has emerged as one of the top young players in French basketball. He averaged 6 points, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 12 Eurocup games last season. He ranked 12th in the competition in assists. Westermann assisted to Kim Tillie on the winning basket in the final regular season game that ushered Asvel into the Last 16 stage. He also averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 assists for Asvel in the French League. In April, Westermann was invited to the prestigious junior tournament, Nike Hoops Summit, where he started for the international team, which won the event. Westermann was a product of the French national development system and signed his first professional contract with Asvel at age 18. He has also been a regular with the French junior national team, which he helped win a bronze medal at last season’s European Under-20 Championships in Bilbao, Spain, by averaging 10 points per game on 51.4% three-point shooting. He also won a silver medal at the European U-18 Championships in 2009, where he ranked fifth in assists with 3.9 per game. At Partizan, he will work with head coach Dusko Vujosevic, who has been a guru at developing young talents into megastars.
