Montepaschi Siena signs combo guard Hackett
Montepaschi Siena bolstered its backcourt by inking combo guard Daniel Hackett to a two-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Hackett (1.98 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro, where he averaged 11.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals in 41 Italian League games last season. He helped Pesaro make it to the Italian semifinals. He started his career in Scavolini's cadet team before joining St.John Bosco High School in the United States. Hackett went on to play three seasons at the University of Southern California, where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 35 NCAA games in the 2008-09 season to help USC win the Pac-10 conference title. His first professional team was Benetton Treviso, with whom he averaged 5.5 points over 12 Eurocup games before joining Scavolini in the summer of 2010. Hackett is also a member of the Italian national team. He helped Italy win the bronze medal at the U20 European Championships played in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. His father, Rudy Hackett, played professionally in the Italian League in the 1980s.
