Unicaja tabs swingman Simon
Unicaja Malaga improved its backcourt by signing shooting guard Krunoslav Simon for the coming season, the club announced Tuesday. Unicaja holds an option to extend his contract for an additional year until the end of the 2013-14 season. Simon (1.97 meters, 27 years old) arrives from KK Zagreb, where he averaged 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. He led his team in scoring (134 points) and fouls drawn (34) as the only Zagreb player to start all 10 games. Simon ranked fifth in free throw accuracy at the end of the 2011-12 regular season after making 25 of 26 attempts (96.2%) from the foul line. Simon leaves Zagreb after 10 consecutive years with the club, in which he started his professional career in the 2002-03 season. He helped Zagreb win Croatian Cup titles in 2008, 2010 and 2011 and lift its only Croatian League trophy at the end of the 2010-11 season. Simon is also a member of the Croatian national team.
