Cantu looks to future with rookie playmaker Smith
Jerry Smith (nba.com)Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds challenger Pallacanestro Cantu announced the signing of a two-year contract with guard Jerry Smith, who will make his European debut with the Italian club. Smith (1.88 meters, 24 years old) played last season with Springfield of the D- League and New Jersey of the NBA. He averaged 19.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.13 steals for Springfield in helping the team reach the playoffs. He ranked ninth in the league in scoring and fourth in steals. Smith was also selected to the league’s all-star game. Before that Smith spent time with the Waikato Pistons of the New Zealand League. Smith played four seasons of college basketball at the University of Louisville, where he finished his career ranked fourth in school history in three-pointers made (210).
