Alba Berlin lands young gun Djedovic
Alba Berlin made a major addition to its 2012-13 roster on Thursday by signing combo guard Nihad Djedovic, considered one of the best young backcourt talents in Europe, to a one-year contract with an option through 2013-14. Djedovic (1.96 meters, 22 years old) scored 9.3 points per game in his only full Euroleague season, 2010-11 with Lottomatica Roma of Italy. That same season, he averaged 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals - eighth-best among all Euroleague players - in 27 minutes over 15 games. Djedovic arrives to Alba from Galatasaray, where he finished last season averaging 11.4 points over 12 games after leaving Roma. He started his career with Bosna Sarajevo in his native Bosnia and Herzegovina, then moved to F.C. Barcelona as a 16-year-old. Djedovic made his Euroleague debut at age 17 with Barcelona in 2007 and played three more games with the club two seasons later. He spent the 2009-10 season with Spanish League club Obradoiro before moving to Roma for two-and-a-half seasons. Djedovic finishes sixth in the voting for the Euroleague's Rising Star Trophy in 2011.
"Nihad can play with his athleticism, both offensively and defensively, at the positions one through three," new Alba Berlin coach Sasa Obradovic said. "Despite only being 22 years old, he has already gained a lot of experience in European leagues. He is also an investment in the future, because he still has a lot of development potential. "
