SPAIN
Spain enters its fourth consecutive Olympic men's basketball tournament with the same core of players that rewrote the country's basketball history. Juan Carlos Navarro, the Turkish Airlines Euroleague's all-time top scorer; Felipe Reyes; his new Real Madrid teammate and former Eurocup Final Eight MVP Rudy Fernandez; Pau Gasol; his brother Marc; and Jose Manuel Calderon have led Spain to win back-to-back EuroBasket titles in 2009 and 2011, the FIBA World Championships in 2006 and the Olympic silver medal in Beijing 2008. Spain has a very deep team with playmakers Sergio Rodriguez and Euroleague champion Victor Sada, 2010-11 All-Euroleague second team choice Sergio Llull, former Eurocup Rising Star award winner Victor Claver, 2010-11 All-Euroleague first team pick Fernando San Emeterio and Serge Ibaka rounding out a strong, powerful squad ready to go for gold. Head coach Sergio Scariolo will step down after the Olympics and wants to leave with the best result possible, in what would be the icing on the cake for an incredible generation of players.
