CHINA
The fact that China is in its eighth consecutive Olympic men's basketball tournament says plenty about its consistency and dominance in Asian basketball. China has reached the quarterfinals three times since 1996 and hopes to use its previous experience to do even better in London. Coach Bob Donewald Jr. relies on athletic power forward Yi Jianlian to make the difference, while veteran center Wang Zhizhi can open the floor with his shots from downtown. Backup center Zhang Zhaoxu figures to be China's main presence in the paint. China is set to play up-tempo through playmakers Liu Wei and Yu Shulong, giving Jianlian the chance to run the floor and get easy points in transition. China has a lot of size at both wings, as small forward Zhu Fangyu (2.02m) and shooting guard Sun Yue (2.06m) can take advantage of that and cause opponents trouble. China has a good chance to bounce back from its disappointing performance - 16th overall - at the 2010 FIBA World Championships in the best possible setting - the Olympic Games.
