GREAT BRITAIN
By hosting the event, Great Britain has earned the right to play in Olympic men's basketball tournament for the first time since 1948. Great Britain's initial goal will be trying to get to the quarterfinals. Its main strength is a strong, talented frontcourt led by versatile forward Luol Deng and former Euroleague superstar Joel Freeland. Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Eric Boateng, Daniel Clark, Kieron Achara and center Robert Archibald, who will retire after the Olympics, round out a strong battery of big men looking to make the difference in the paint. Other than Deng, who will see most of his playing time at small forward, Great Britain relies on Mike Lenzly of CEZ Nymburk and Kyle Johnson to open the court with their outside shots. Young talent Andrew Lawrence and 38-year-old veteran Nate Reinking split playing time at point guard. With a great crowd backing them, Great Britain will fight to make basketball more popular in London one year before the 2013 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four hits the town.
