TUNISIA
Tunisia earned the right to play at the 2012 Olympic Games in London by conquering the AfroBasket 2011 crown. An aggressive squad, Tunisia is a tough defensive team that powers the boards and tries to win games by playing intense, effective basketball at both ends. Long-time head coach Adel Tlatli, who has led the team since 2001, already guided Tunisia to the 2010 FIBA World Championships, but the AfroBasket title is a new all-time high for basketball in the country. Its best player is center Salah Mejri, who is his team's defensive anchor due to his shot blocking and rebounding skills. Active, mobile and quick for his 2.14-meter size, Mejri is set to surprise many. Power forward Macram Ben Romdhane complements Mejri and playmaker Marouan Kechrid provides the firepower from downtown. Big man Mohamed Hadidane and small forward Amine Rzig round out a roster with a short rotations that will rely on defense to keep rewriting its own history.
