Union Olimpija signs Waters
Dominic Waters joins OlimpijaUnion Olimpija Ljubljana found a new point guard for the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague season, as Dominic Waters inked a one-year deal with his new team on Sunday. Waters (1.85 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Belgacom Liege Basket, where he averaged 12.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and a competition-best 4.1 assists in 29 Belgian League games last season. Waters finished his college career at Portland State University, averaging 18.6 points and 4.7 assists in 32 NCAA games in the 2009-10 season. He had tryouts with STB Le Havre in Spain and Eisbaeren Bremerhaven in Germany but ended up signing with VOO Verviers-Pepinster, averaging 15 points and 3.4 assists in 30 Belgian League games. "Waters has improve a lot and already has experience in European basketball, which is important for us since we are building a young team. He has excellent court vision, is effective on defense and understands the game on defense," head coach Saso Filipovski said. "I am glad that we started to build the team and belueve that we can put together a suead that will work hard and fight for every possession."
