Unics Kazan lands Mire Chatman
Unics Kazan announced early Friday that the club reached an agreement with veteran guard Mire Chatman for one season. Chatman (1.87 meters, 33 years old) arrives from Pinar Karsiyaka of Turkey and he has the credentials for being a worthy addition as last season he averaged 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists in over 32 Turkish League games. He also averaged 20.0 points, 4.8 boards and 5.5 assists in the FIBA EuroChallenge. He will strengthen even more a complete roster that will fight for a Turkish Airlines Euroleague second participation spot through the Qualifying Round next September. Unics' first rival will be Ratiopharm Ulm.
Chatman is a player with lots of experience in Europe. He played college ball from 1998 to 2002 and that same year he moved to Latvia to play with BK Venstpils. He stayed there for one more year and then moved to France to join Pau-Orthez. In 2006-07 he joined Dynamo Moscow of Russia with which he won the ULEB Cup trophy. After starting another season in Dynamo he moved to Italy to play with Virtus Roma but the following year he switched teams back to Russia to BC Triumph Lyubertsy. In 2008 he started his Turksih stint by joining Besiktas JK, with which he stayed until 2011, before joining Pinar Karsiyaka. He was chosen Player of the Year of the Latvian League in 2003, and also won the league that season and the following one. He has always been a leading court general in all the teams he has played in, and now Unics hopes that Chatman will also lead the team back into its second Euroleague participation.
