McCarty to stay in Unics Kazan
Kelly McCarty - UnicsAs the Russian club announced on Friday morning, forward Kelly McCarty will stay with Unics Kazan one more season. McCarty (2.01 meters, 37 years old) arrived in Kazan in 2010. Since then, he has always been a solid contributor in the team, leading it to its first continental title ever, the 2011 Eurocup which allowed the team to make its debut in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague last season in which he averaged 5.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in over 18 appearances. He led Unics to the Quarterfinal Playoffs in its debut season in the European top competition.

McCarty also won the ULEB Cup in 2004 with Hapoel Jerusalem, as he was also chosen MVP of the Final. After that he moved to Russia with Spartak St. Petersburg and then switched to BC Khimki Moscow Region in 2006, where he spent four seasons. He was included in the All-Eurocup First Team in 2008-09 when Khimki reached the Final but lost to Lietuvos Rytas. He played college ball in Southern Mississippi from 1994 to 1998 and after one year with the Denver Nuggets he moved to Israel in 1999. He played with Maccabi Raanana and and Maccabi Givat Shmuel before joining Hapoel midway through the 2003-04 season. He will have now another go at the Euroleague as Unics starts the Qualifying Round next September against Ratiopharm Ulm.
