WHAT'S NEW
There is an almost entirely new roster in Malaga with nine new faces wearing Unicaja jersey’s and a new man in Coach Jasmin Repesa in charge on the bench. Point guards Marcus Williams and Earl Calloway will run the new offense, while combo guard Krunoslav Simon and rookie shooting guard Txemi Urtasun will feed off of them to score from the perimeter. Repesa’s trademark is high-energy, hard-working teams, and Sergi Vidal and Zoran Dragic fit perfectly into that equation, as do the additions of three of the top 10 Euroleague shot-blockers last season - James Gist, Fran Vasquez and Kosta Perovic – a trio that brings with it a huge sense of intimidation in the paint.

Unicaja is 2012 Andalucia Cup champion

THE BACKCOURT
An all-new backcourt starts with rookie point guard Williams, who shines in half-court sets and the veteran Calloway, who is a speedster and sneaky defender who loves to run. Lefty Simon, often unstoppable one-on-one with his crafty moves, can also jump into their playmaking role. Simon can light it up from downtown as well, something Unicaja should also get from rookie Urtasun, while Dragic and the experienced veteran Vidal can make major impacts with their hard-nosed defense.

THE FRONTCOURT
Luka Zoric and young Augusto Cesar Lima welcome new faces around them as the only two players left from last season’s roster. As a great rebounder and scorer, Zoric can serve as either power forward or center. With him and the additions of power forward Gist and high-flying center Vasquez, Unicaja has unmatched frontcourt athleticism and great sources for alley-oops. Big man Perovic solidifies the front line as another reliable presence in the paint. His great size adds to this unit’s strength.

OUTLOOK
Unicaja put together an intimidating front line that should rule the paint and create many highlight reels. With such sizeable, athletic frontcourt and quick, pass-happy guards, Unicaja will try to run a lot – a style Repesa stresses and has tried to implement on all of his teams. If all goes according to plan, Unicaja could end its five-year streak without a Euroleague playoff appearance.

Txemi Urtasun - Cajasol Sevilla - Finals Treviso 2011
PLAYER TO WATCH: Txemi Urtasun
It has been a long road for Txemi Urtasun, but he finally has the chance to make his Euroleague debut. Urtasun signed a four-year deal with Unicaja in 2002 but was sent on loan and never had the chance to play with the team - until now. An all-around scorer, Urtasun is deadly from downtown and is an excellent slasher. His floating layups, character and determination will make him a fan favorite in Malaga.
